Samana guide: whales, cays and Los Haitises park
Santa Barbara de Samana is the gateway to the Caribbean's most famous whale watching bay and the base for exploring Los Haitises National Park, a labyrinth of jungle hills, mangroves and Taino caves.
Whale season
From mid January to mid March, thousands of humpback whales enter the bay to breed. Boat trips depart from the Samana waterfront every morning.
Los Haitises
The national park is visited by boat from Samana or Sabana de la Mar: jungle covered hills, seabird colonies and Taino cave paintings.
